'Jesus knew that his mission was finished, and to fulfil scripture he said, 'I am thirsty' A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it to his lips. When Jesus tasted it, he said, 'It is finished!' Then he bowed his head and released his spirit.' John 19:28 NLT
Yesterday was good friday and for me a very important day, it commemorates the death of Jesus, who is my God and best friend. He died on the cross in order to know me and each and everyone one of us, a proclamation that we are made perfect in his eyes again, a fresh start. This line, in the bible refers to the moment Jesus died, in his moments of complete anguish and pain and separation from God, and for me it makes it even more real, that they held the sponge up to him, the small facts we don't hear often about the reality of the moment that Jesus died for me.
I am also reminded of a Rob Bell quote;
“Our tendency in the midst of suffering is to turn on God. To get angry and bitter and shake our fist at the sky and say, "God, you don't know what it's like! You don't understand! You have no idea what I'm going through. You don't have a clue how much this hurts. The cross is God's way of taking away all of our accusations, excuses, and arguments. The cross is God taking on flesh and blood and saying, "Me too.” Rob Bell
Now what ever your beliefs, I hope you have a wonderful easter and remember that its spring, a time of fresh starts and new growth, maybe take a moment to have a think about what you want to change in your life or start in your life and give it ago.
